Update on the 50,000 chickens left to starve, many rescued need your help!

We got an update from Marji at Animal Place:

We actually took out 4,610 hens total - more than 3,000 are currently at our Rescue Ranch facility. The hens were released into Animal Place and Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary custody. They are slowly recovering…we could really use help w/ this rescue. This is the largest and most expensive rescue we have ever undertaken.

Please donate if you can! So sad! They need our help!

Sugared Violets :: Culinate

* not vegan but pretty sure you could use a lot of things in place of egg white. when i was a teenager i wanted my whole life to be spent being a sugared violet maker. i hadn’t and still haven’t ever made them, i think i just thought it would be really cute.

lemon/coconut bundt cake with lemon glaze.

the recipe for the cake came from the veganomicon. it was delicious but it fell apart the first time i made it, so i had to add egg replacer the second time around. veganomicon, you kinda keep letting me down.

to make the glaze i mixed about a cup of icing sugar (sifted) with about 1/4 cup lemon juice and poured it over the cooled cake!

date & cashew truffles!

to make: in a food processor, pulse 1/4 cup of cashews until finely chopped, reserve for later! put a cup of cashews in the food processor & pulse into small chunks. add a cup of pitted dates (approx. 200grams) and 1-2 tablespoons of non-dairy milk. once mixture is done, form into small balls (1 1/2cm diameter) & roll in the reserved chopped cashews, cocoa powder or shredded coconut. place in the fridge to firm up. will make 35-39 truffles.

macadamia & dried apricot truffles rolled in coconut are a winning combo too!

Pretty Lavender Sugar. To use in jams and cakes and things to make them a little bit fancy, and also just to look cute as fuck sitting in the pantry. We just bashed a handful of lavender flowers (no stalks) with a bit less than a cup of caster sugar in the little mortar and pestle.
